"From grass to milk..."

Raigras naciendo 20 mar 2019Ryegrass is the green winter of choice for many areas on milk production in Argentina, and has been the species of annual growth
winter highest increase found in humid regions and sub-humid lands, in
about the area sown. By itself ensures an excellent supply of pasture quality from may until September, after which it begins to lengthen looking to flourish. Also it can be combined with oatmeal (blend to overtake the first grazing) and/or with red clover (lengthening the green onions into the summer and even -if it stops seeding and planting - have it again the following winter). The ryegrass in the photo was sown at the rate of 30 kg/ha, on march 5, 2019, and it looked like it 15 days later, in The Marianas, Navarro, BA..

Due to its high level of forage production, higher than the oatmeal, is a crop that demands greater fertilization with nitrogen (N) and responds very well to high doses of fertilizer, even applied in the winter (mean monthly temperature of 8 °C). In an essay do with Ea. The Luminaire in General Las Heras, BA we obtained the following responses to different doses of fertilizers. The case, with the usual dose (seeding with 140 kg di-ammonium Phosphate (FDA)/has + 360 kg of Urea/ha in 3 applications after every 2 pastures) paid 13.428 kg of dry matter (dm)/ha and cost -to mexican pesos as of today - 1.716 $/tonne dry matter consumed (MSC= assuming a 50% usage with the lot with high production single). In case C, we apply a fertilization to complete the 100% of the requirements of the ryegrass according to chemical analysis of soil (16 ppm of phosphorus -P Bray-, 4% organic matter and pH 7, a Half-hill Series Brandsen, Argiudol free from clay, Ability to Use IIIw) with the dose of N in 6 applications after each grazing. The yield was 40% higher with respect to the case at a cost of 2.411 $ per ton of dry matter consumed.

It is important to note that in order to achieve these yields is that lengthen the intervals between grazing to maximize the response to N applied (ideal 40-45 days). Good seed and high fertilization lead to high milk production per hectare and defends the economy of the dairy farm. Grass production at the level of the input accounted for only 6.5% of the income of milk and contributed 50% of the food of the cows. In each campaign we recommend to choose a lotecito where doubling the level of fertilization usual to go forward in every field with this theme so important to the planets pastoral!
