The value of the vaquillona pregnant

The values that are paid by a vaquillona with pregnancy ahead of the auction of the treasury always generate discussions among dairy farmers. There is a general view very wide for the term “vaquillona pregnant” and it is common to hear a conversation about the topic that mentions the price without considering the genetic quality of the animals in question. Obviously, the willingness to make a purchase of heifers will depend on the production system of the tambo one to have, with what a question pastoral of high load and low production individual don't want to spend much on animals of high genetic value while this would be an essential condition for a free-stall high-producing individual. Historically, it was estimated the value of the vaquillona with pregnancy advanced (convention for a female to 1 or 2 months of their first birth) as the production of their first lactation. As we can see in the chart “Evolution first lactation race Dutch” 20 years ago the average lactation of primiparous registered in the Association of Breeders of Dutch Argentino (ACHA) it was little more than 5,000 litres of milk, then going for 6,000 lt and currently with values close to 8,000 lt of milk.

Many times the market does not validates that value, in which case you often have few sales, preferring the breeder to stay with the heifers and sell cows, or financial need emitted from them. In the chart “Evolution of the price vaquillona Dutch PARC” we have a tendency in the past 10 years of the auction of heifers with pregnancy advanced, and log fry in the ACHA. The average in that period has been 6.000 lt of milk/head with a maximum of 8.450 lt and a minimum of 4.168. It is important to note that within the register of offspring there is a genetic variability important and it would be the breeders of the best genetics that achieve superior values.

In the chart “Vaquillona Dutch Pregnancy Early” we can see the evolution of the values in weights constant of the last 10 years and updated by IPIM (Index of Wholesale Prices that are Internal to the INDEC to June 2021). Are values in pesos + IVA + freight borne by the buyer. The source of this information are records CREATED with data from the auctions Dutch Cooperative Lehmann. There is note the fall during the crisis period 2015-2018, and the subsequent recovery of the value to be placed. It is also interesting to observe the difference between the curve of prices of animals and Registration of Offspring and the rodeo general, with a value of +24% higher for the registration of offspring.

This information is in a sense an indicator of business of milk production because the interest diminishes in times of general crisis. On the other hand the farms that are adopting more intensive systems with building sheds, corrals and diets completely mixed (TMR) need to incorporate animals to achieve the desirable scale and genetics to ensure the production needed to meet the higher costs.
